Here I took a photograph of a narrowboat from the side, and reduced the exposure right down to create a silhouette. I then added an outer glow to the image and put against a dark background.

For the text I have kept to the colour-scheme of the National Geographic brand.

I am pleased with this graphic. I feel it’s quite punchy, and uncluttered. The silhouette effect adds a mystery / ‘to be revealed’ aspect that hopefully would entice viewers to want to know more about the subject.

I now need to consider how to incorporate a call to action button and the show title without cluttering the existing bold and simple design.
